Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) uses a sterile needle device to make "microinjuries" at a controlled depth on the skin. The idea is that these microinjuries induce a healing response that promotes the fibroblast cells to produce more collagen and elastin resulting in firming and tightening of the skin. Other results include a reduction in scars (especially acne scars), pore size, and stretch marks.

Skin needling treatments are performed in a safe and precise manner with the sterile MDPen™ needlehead and are normally completed within 60-100 minutes, depending on the selected area.

While multiple sessions are typically recommended to achieve optimal results depending on your specific goals, noticeable changes can be seen just one week after treatment and gradually improve as the body’s healing process begins to take effect. Side effects are similar to a mild sunburn, such as redness, tenderness, and some swelling.

Add-On Services

  • $100- Human Derived EGF Gel: Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) can be found in our platelets. They basically instruct all the different cells how and when to perform. EGF is one of the most important growth factors in our skin and plays a vital role in the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to maintain skin’s healthy, dense, and youthful appearance. I'll use EGF gel while microneedling as well as give you 3 days worth to use at home.
  • $25 (30 mins)- Celluma Light TherapyThe energy delivered by the LEDs has been shown to enhance cellular metabolism, accelerate the repair and replenishment of damaged skin cells, as well as stimulate the production of collagen — the foundation of healthy, smooth skin. Research has shown that LED light therapy may help smooth skin texture, improve skin firmness and resilience, increase lymphatic system activity, restore skin’s natural cellular activity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and superficial hyperpigmentation. The treatment is for all skin types, and is non-ablative, non-invasive, painless, and requires absolutely no downtime.

Microneedling with Human Derived-Epidermal Growth Factor

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) can be found in our platelets. From birth until adulthood, our bodies produce these skin-replenishing and signaling proteins. They communicate with cells; sending messages to repair and rejuvenate. They basically instruct all the different cells how and when to perform. EGF is one of the most important growth factors in our skin and plays a vital role in the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid to maintain skin’s healthy, dense, and youthful appearance. Once we reach our twenties, production of growth factors is already decreasing. As a result, cell turnover and repair slow, eventually affecting our appearance – skin starts to sag, and fine lines and wrinkles appear.

Side Effects

Microneedling is a fairly pain-free treatment, and after the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance, similar to a moderate sunburn. There may also be skin tightness and mild sensitivity in the treatment area. This will diminish greatly within a few hours following the treatment and over the following 24 hours. After 4 days, there will be little evidence the procedure has taken place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is microneedling painful? I use topical numbing cream before the treatment. So discomfort should be minimal. However, if you’ve had trouble with numbing agents in the past (such as numbing for dental work) please let me know in advance.

Can I microneedle if I have botox or fillers? Yes! I recommend waiting 1 week after botox and 2 weeks after fillers.

How long will it take to heal? Most clients will take 4-5 days for their skin to go back to “normal”. Immediately following the treatment, your skin will appear flushed, and you will want to avoid wearing make-up or other topical products for a few hours to a day. Your skin is extremely porous following the procedure and you want to make sure that you aren’t applying anything abrasive or harmful to the skin at this time.

How long until I see results? I typically recommend a series of 3 treatments, with 4 weeks in between each treatment. Final results typically take a few months as the skin produces more collagen and elastin.

What skin color / type is best for microneedling? Any and all! Microneedling is safe to use on all skin types and colors without risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Are there any contraindications? Microneedling is safe for most people. However, people who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s), have open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s), have an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics, have a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction, are pregnant or nursing, are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane) should not be microneedled.
